Dave, I have long suspected that William E. King who married Jane Heath
Stover was a son of Jesse King and Lydia Walker (daughter of George and
Ann Bryan Walker) of Frederick Co. Md..

Today, on the West Virginia Vital Statistics site , I opened the E.W.
King and J.H. Stever (sic) 5 June 1858 Harrison Co. W.V. marriage
    license application-- digital photo.

It showed E.W. (Edward William aka William Edward) King 39 widower
    father Jess/ Mother L. King.

    J.H Stover 17 single father Jacob/ Mother E. Stover
    Born Hardy Co. Va.

It does say E.W. was born Frederick Co. Va.
I believe that to be an error -- everything, I have seen shows him born
    Dec 1819 Frederick Co. Md.

I have more on this additional generation including William E. King's
    siblings should you be interested.

  1. 2.  Jacob (of Fayette Co OH) Jr Stover was born Sep 1809, Virginia (son of Jacob (2nd son) (of Hardy Co VA) Sr Stover and Dorothy Neff); died 23 Dec 1875, Fayette County, Ohio; was buried Dec 1875, Union Township, Fayette County, Ohio.

    Other Events:

    • Birth: Virginia; The hand-written Creamer-Stover-Watt document surfaced in 2020, which states Nimrod Stover had a brother named Jacob. It's not fully certain as to which Nimrod it means. There are more than one.
    • Deed: 22 Jun 1832, Hardy County, Virginia; Jacob Stover Jr sold land; 157 1/2 acres at Middle Mountain for $40 to Joseph Evans of Hardy Co. Amounts to one half of the tract that was conveyed by William Greenwood and wife to Jacob Stover Jr on 29 Apr 1830.
    • Residence: Bef 1850, Clarksburg, Harrison County, Virginia; According to Creamer-Stover-Watt research Jacob moved his family (except Jane and Ann, who moved later) from Clarksburg, VA (now W. VA) to Ohio about 1850.

    • Occupation: 1874; Jacob Stover was referred as Rev Jacob Stover in biography of son, James H Stover.
    • Death of Jacob Stover, December 1875: 30 Dec 1875, Washington, Ohio; Small pox.

    Notes:

Jacob's parents can not be 100% certain, but were thought to be Jacob Stover 1753-1816 and Dorothy Neff based primarily on the McNabbs Stover History documents. The trouble is neither Jacob (nor possible brother Nimrod) are mentioned in Jacob's 1816 will. A mystery. The hand-written Creamer-Stover-Watt document surfaced in 2020, which states prominently that Nimrod Stover had a brother named Jacob. There is evidence that another Nimrod Stover (1805-1823) was son of Christian Stover Jr. and Susanna Funk. Daniel Bly expresses there are two distinct Nimrods. Information for Nimrod Stover 1803-1880 is prevalent and would likely be the best choice to be a brother of Jacob. But of course, confusion never gives up.Daniel Bly has speculated that *Jacob Stover of Hardy County* may be a son of Mary Stover, who apparently had children named Jacob and Mary without benefit of marriage. Mary is Christian Stover Junior's sister. This Mary was mentioned in Christian Junior's 1815 will along with her children Jacob and Mary. Birth and death for Mary is not known. If Bly is referring to THIS Jacob, who was b. 1809, I think it unlikely Mary had a son born 1809, because that is probably too late to be her son.

    Birth:
Jacob's parents are not certain, but have been thought to be Jacob Stover 1753-1816 and Dorothy Neff, as stated in the McNabbs research.

    Buried:
    Section 15-15, Washington Courthouse Cemetery.

Generation: 3

  1. 4.  Jacob (2nd son) (of Hardy Co VA) Sr Stover was born Abt 1774, Virginia (son of Christian Stauffer (of Franklin Co PA) Stover and Franey); died , Virginia.

    Other Events:

    • Possessions: 29 Jan 1802, Hardy County, West Virginia; Ref: Stover research from McNabb [http://www.mcnabbs.org/~nancy] from Hardy County, West Virginia Deed Book A p493-495. One eleventh interest of property of Henry Neff (d. intestate) sold by Jacob and Dorothy Stover to Abel Seymour.

    Notes:

From Daniel Bly July 2022: "I am sure that the Jacob Stover, who married Dorothy Neff, is the 2nd born son of Christian Stoufer of Franklin County. In Pennsylvania the "Orphans Court" was not just for underage children, it was the court to settle probate disputes. Those children of Christian were all grown up adults."

Daniel Bly has speculated that "Jacob of Hardy County" may be son of Mary Stover. Mary Stover, dau. of Jacob Stover of Strasburg (1717-1791) (brother of Peter). She had two children named Jacob and Mary, apparently without the benefit of marriage. Mary is Christian Stover Junior's sister. She and her two children were mentioned in Christian Stover Junior's 1815 will.

    Birth:
There are still some question as to who this Jacob Stover's TRUE parents are.

    Died:
Death believed to be in Virginia. No records or possible dates.

Jacob married Dorothy Neff Bef 1801, Virginia. Dorothy (daughter of Henry (of Hardy Co VA) Neff and Elizabeth) was born Abt 1777, Hampshire County, Virginia; died Bef 1816. [Group Sheet]

  2. 5.  Dorothy Neff was born Abt 1777, Hampshire County, Virginia (daughter of Henry (of Hardy Co VA) Neff and Elizabeth); died Bef 1816.

    Other Events:

    • Possessions: 29 Jan 1802, Hardy County, West Virginia; Ref: Stover research from McNabb [http://www.mcnabbs.org/~nancy] from Hardy County, West Virginia Deed Book A p493-495. One eleventh interest of property of Henry Neff (d. intestate) sold by Jacob and Dorothy Stover to Abel Seymour.

    Notes:

Henry Neff died intestate. His children (11 of them) have been identified by deeds made by each of his children when they each sold their 1/11th share of the inherited estate to Abel Seymour or to Michael Neff. This is detailed in Descendants of Hans Leonard Neff, by JW "Bill" Neff (1929-2020): https://www.wvgenweb.org/hardy/nefflen.htm.

This above site does not list Dorothy Neff as one of the children, however a deed exists showing her sale of 1/11th interest of the estate she inherited from her father, Henry Neff. Her 1/11th share was also sold to Abel Seymour in Jan 1802. So it's evident that Dorothy Neff is one of the children of Henry Neff and she was simply overlooked in the above website.

    Birth:
Alternate first name: Dorotha, which may be a family name. Her great grandmother was named Anna Dorothea. No mention of Dorothy Neff in J W Neff's Descendants of Hans Leonard Neff. I believe she was simply overlooked, since documentary evidence exists.

    Died:
    Probably died before Jacob.

    1. David Stover
