    Other Events:

    • Residence: 1777, Lower Salford, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania; Mathias Stauffer kept an inn while he lived at his farm in Lower Salford. in 1777 when Gen. Washington's army was under retreat after the Battle of Germantown, a number other the officers lodged at the inn.
    • Residence: 1778, Lower Salford, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania; Mathias later sold his farm to his son, Christian. Mathias then purchased a 200 acre farm at Towamencin, on which Gen. Washington's army had encamped.

Ref: Some account of Jacob Oberholtzer pg 214. I believe this was Mathias and Anna (Clemens) Stauffer, NOT the Mathias who m. Anna Oberholtzer.

    Notes:

Use caution when reviewing historical references for Mathias Stauffer, who had a wife named Anna and a son named Christian. There are a couple of them and confusion has occurred.

Mathias Stauffer of Lower Salford Twp, Montgomery County married Anna Clemens and had son Christian Stover of Lower Salford Twp.

Mathias Stauffer of Earl Twp, Lancaster County married Anna Oberholtzer and had son Christian Stauffer of Earl Twp and Caernarvon Twp, Lancaster County.

There are also references to Mathias Stauffer of Earl or Conestoga Twp, who had a wife possibly named Anna ZIMMERMAN. This was speculated from Mathias' will (6 Feb 1758), which named a brother-in-law, Christian Zimmerman. I believe this speculation is incorrect. I believe this Mathias married Anna Oberholtzer.
