    Notes:

Notes regarding parents of Nimrod Stover.Source: http://www.vagenweb.org/shenandoah/bly_1810_1816.htmlShenandoah Co. Minute Order 12 Jun 1815.-Lydia and Franey Stover, orphans of Christian Stover (Junior), chose Isaac Funk as guardian, over 14 years of age. - Isaac Funk is appointed guardian to Nimrod Stover, orphan of Christian (Junior). According to Daniel Bly, this Nimrod Stover (b.1805) died in 1823 and is not the Nimrod Stover who m. Nancy and lived from 1803-1880.Nimrod Stover 1803-1880 who m. Nancy: His parents cannot be 100% certain, but had originally been thought to be Jacob Stover 1753-1816 and Dorothy Neff based primarily on the McNabbs documents. The problem is neither Nimrod (nor brother Jacob) are NOT mentioned in Jacob Stover's 1816 will, so this casts some doubt. The hand-written Creamer-Stover-Watt document surfaced in 2020, which states Jacob and Nimrod Stover were brothers, which would make Nimrod's parents the same as Jacob. There is evidence that a different Nimrod Stover (1805-1823) had a father named Christian Stover Jr., according to Daniel Bly, who expressed these is more than one Nimrod Stover. Information on Nimrod Stover born in 1803 is prevalent. So of course, confusion never gives up.More Info: Through the Years, 1962, Virginia Golden Walgreen.http://www.seekingmyroots.com/members/files/G002218.pdf

    Birth:
Nimrod Stover birth in 1803, listed as son of Jacob and Dorothy Neff, is suggested in McNabb research. Also in Creamer-Stover-Watt research, "Jacob (b.1809) had one brother named Nimrod."

Generation: 4

  1. 12.  Jacob (2nd son) (of Hardy Co VA) Sr Stover was born Abt 1774, Virginia (son of Christian Stauffer (of Franklin Co PA) Stover and Franey); died , Virginia.

    Other Events:

    • Possessions: 29 Jan 1802, Hardy County, West Virginia; Ref: Stover research from McNabb [http://www.mcnabbs.org/~nancy] from Hardy County, West Virginia Deed Book A p493-495. One eleventh interest of property of Henry Neff (d. intestate) sold by Jacob and Dorothy Stover to Abel Seymour.

    Notes:

From Daniel Bly July 2022: "I am sure that the Jacob Stover, who married Dorothy Neff, is the 2nd born son of Christian Stoufer of Franklin County. In Pennsylvania the "Orphans Court" was not just for underage children, it was the court to settle probate disputes. Those children of Christian were all grown up adults."

Daniel Bly has speculated that "Jacob of Hardy County" may be son of Mary Stover. Mary Stover, dau. of Jacob Stover of Strasburg (1717-1791) (brother of Peter). She had two children named Jacob and Mary, apparently without the benefit of marriage. Mary is Christian Stover Junior's sister. She and her two children were mentioned in Christian Stover Junior's 1815 will.

    Birth:
There are still some question as to who this Jacob Stover's TRUE parents are.

    Died:
Death believed to be in Virginia. No records or possible dates.

Jacob married Dorothy Neff Bef 1801, Virginia. Dorothy (daughter of Henry (of Hardy Co VA) Neff and Elizabeth) was born Abt 1777, Hampshire County, Virginia; died Bef 1816. [Group Sheet]

  2. 13.  Dorothy Neff was born Abt 1777, Hampshire County, Virginia (daughter of Henry (of Hardy Co VA) Neff and Elizabeth); died Bef 1816.

    Other Events:

    • Possessions: 29 Jan 1802, Hardy County, West Virginia; Ref: Stover research from McNabb [http://www.mcnabbs.org/~nancy] from Hardy County, West Virginia Deed Book A p493-495. One eleventh interest of property of Henry Neff (d. intestate) sold by Jacob and Dorothy Stover to Abel Seymour.

    Notes:

Henry Neff died intestate. His children (11 of them) have been identified by deeds made by each of his children when they each sold their 1/11th share of the inherited estate to Abel Seymour or to Michael Neff. This is detailed in Descendants of Hans Leonard Neff, by JW "Bill" Neff (1929-2020): https://www.wvgenweb.org/hardy/nefflen.htm.

This above site does not list Dorothy Neff as one of the children, however a deed exists showing her sale of 1/11th interest of the estate she inherited from her father, Henry Neff. Her 1/11th share was also sold to Abel Seymour in Jan 1802. So it's evident that Dorothy Neff is one of the children of Henry Neff and she was simply overlooked in the above website.

    Birth:
Alternate first name: Dorotha, which may be a family name. Her great grandmother was named Anna Dorothea. No mention of Dorothy Neff in J W Neff's Descendants of Hans Leonard Neff. I believe she was simply overlooked, since documentary evidence exists.

    Died:
    Probably died before Jacob.

    Children:
    1. David Stover
    2. Benjamin Stover was born Abt 1794, Virginia.
    3. 6. Nimrod Sr of (Gilmer Co WV) Stover was born 1803, Hardy County, Virginia; died Feb 1880, Gilmer County, West Virginia; was buried Feb 1880, Normantown, Gilmer County, West Virginia.

    Other Events:

    • Will: 14 Mar 1827, Hardy County, Virginia; Daniel Tevebough Jr wrote his will on 14 Mar 1827. It was proven 9 Sep 1828. His wife Martha is named executor. Witnesses: Henry Nicholas, Moyer (sp) Hutton, Felix Seymour.
    • Probate: 9 Sep 1828, Hardy, West Virginia, USA; Will mentions wife Martha (sp: Marthew), executor.

    Notes:

    Died:
Will was proven on 9 Sep 1828, so death was on or before this date.
