John (Johannes) STAUFFER was born on 6 Aug 1715 or 16 Aug 1715 in Wartemberg or Muckenheiser, Germany.(8887) (8888) Wartemberg was a village near Ibersheim, eight miles north of Worms and about 15 miles northwest of Heidelberg.
The LDS Stauffer family record is the one that states birth on 16 Aug. in Muckenheiser. He owned immediately south of in-laws' farm after 1737 in Warwick Twp., Lancaster Co., Pa..(8889) John Slabaugh believes the home was located just to the south of the Hammer Creek Mennonite Church. He immigrated on 24 Sep 1737 to Philadelphia. (8890) Arrived on the ship "Virtuous Grace" with his mother Veronica and three brothers. His father had died prior to emigrating to America. He signed a will on 30 Dec 1766 in Lancaster Co., Pa.. (8891) He died in Jan 1767 in Warwick Twp., Lancaster Co., Pa.. (8892) Place of burial unknown, but possibly in a homestead cemetery.
In the Slabaugh book on page 85, it states that John died in Jan 1761. However, on page 84 it states that John signed his will on 30 Dec 1766 and the will was probated on 16 Jan 1767. It is then assumed that the 1761 year was a typographical error and the correct year was 1767. He was buried in Jan 1767 in Lancaster Co., Pa..(8893) He had an estate probated on 16 Jan 1767 in Lancaster Co., Pa..(8894) He resided probable brother Jacob's home after arrival in America southwest of Brickerville 1737 to 1738 in Elizabeth Twp., Lancaster Co., Pa.. (8895) Parents: Daniel or Hans STAUFFER and Veronica SCHENK.
He was married to Catherine SCHENCK Fall 1738 in Lancaster Co., Pa.. (8896) Children were: Anna Barbara STAUFFER , Elizabeth STAUFFER, Veronica STAUFFER, Christian STAUFFER, Jacob STAUFFER, Ann STAUFFER, Christina STAUFFER, Catherine STAUFFER, Eva STAUFFER, John STAUFFER, Henry STAUFFER, Marie STAUFFER, Michael STAUFFER.
He was married to Catherine ---- after 1760 in Lancaster Co., Pa..(8897) Children were: Susan STAUFFER, Magdalena STAUFFER.
